Developer gets OK to destroy hundreds of gopher tortoises

Last week, the St. Johns River Water Management District awarded a permit to a 1,033-acre proposed housing development and golf course north of Ormond Beach, including the state's blessing to destroy up to 923 tortoises on the land - June 19, Daytona Beach News-Journal
