Environmentalists stake out role in planning for future toll road

Some environmentalists fear 125 miles of thick, black asphalt stretching across Florida's increasingly rare ranchland and unspoiled wildlife habitat is a developer's dream, so when a route was proposed for the Heartland Coast-to-Coast toll road from Tampa Bay to St. Lucie County, environmental lobbyists took notice - July 30, Vero Beach Press-Journal
