Algae threaten Wekiva River

The Wekiva River is sick from pollution, a $500,000 study confirms, with algae that have infested the Wekiva's clear, cool waters; countless species of algae always have been part of the Wekiva River's ecosystem, but scientists think high doses of nitrogen and phosphorus are nourishing a type of algae now choking out plants and creatures in large sections of the river - Aug. 7, Orlando Sentinel
