Opinion: Slash and burn

In all, 210 land-clearing violations are now under review by Brevard County's Natural Resources office, and about half of those cases involve old, protected trees that were illegally chopped down -- yet culprits sneer and keep cutting, figuring the chances of getting reported and fined are slim, and any fine a pittance compared to the development profits to be made - Aug. 14, Florida Today
