Placida area primed for development

Luxury condominiums in gated communities are replacing the tree canopy, manmade lakes with lighted water fountains are replacing the swamps, and people -- thousands of them -- are replacing pygmy rattlesnakes, gopher tortoises and great-horned owls; according to county records, 2,233 multifamily homes are planned for a five-mile stretch near Placida Road - Aug. 14, Desoto Sun Herald
